CHIEF PUPPER IN CHARGE

Before we do anything we have to run it by Sun Bun. Even getting out of bed, he will put his paw on you and say- "no, not yet!" and he is almost always right. Sunny loves fly-fishing, skiing, hiking, gravel-biking, bike packing, car rides, nummies, treats, getting under covers, pizzles and what really drives him is licking himself. He can be found most mornings running in the Flat Irons with his mommy and group of super strong ladies.

THIS SHORT IS CALLED "GOOD TIME," BECAUSE IT IS ABOUT DOGS, BACON AND A BIG SMILE. IT IS ONLY ALWAYS, ALL ABOUT.... HAVING A GOOD TIME! SOUND UP!

When I was 3 we drove down the hill from Montclair California and out past the mothball fleet in the bay, inland and uphill toward Placerville on our way to Tahoe. Something switched in me when I saw the red dirt, fir trees and snow markers. I felt at home and it has been that way ever since. I have always needed to go higher and further away.

I took off from school and moved to Alaska to be a Park Ranger in Denali. I met my wife there. In the winters I went to New Zealand to work for their Department of Conservation as a hut warden and on the North Shore of Oahu I taught little Hawaiians about their beaches and mountains before needing to tear away for Nepal or back to Alaska.

I had always dealt with a high motor and the need to go, teachers that didn't understand and the need to just run it off or play ball or, as my dad figured it out- "Light out for the territories" like Robert Service had.

It wasn't until I first surfed, powder skied and water-skied that I found a sensation that calmed me and made me feel at home the way the sage and red dirt of the Sierra had. I found that my body, loading.... turning, unfurling, sine- cosine and erupting into the next turn made me feel wholly human and totally free like nothing ever before.

And now, I realize that fly-fishing and the zzzzzzz unfurling of the fly-line leader and tippet is the same sensation. There is something with the way the earth spins and the water in our body that just needs to turn.

That is what this is about- turning... getting turns. Getting after it and getting what you need. Life is too short to not go. Go far and wide and hard. We are here to help you.
